Council supports Quandamooka cultural festival

Quandamooka culture will be on display on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) from today, 30 to 31 August 2024, with the return of the Quandamooka Festival.Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said the festival provided an opportunity to become immersed in one of the oldest living cultures on earth.“Redland City Council was a founding sponsor of the Quandamooka Festival in 2015 and is very proud to support it again this year,” the Mayor said.“The festival is a wonderful opportunity to engage, for residents and visitors, and learn more about the rich culture of the Nughi, Nunukul and Goenpul First Nations Peoples of Quandamooka Country.“The 2024 festival program is packed with events and activities ranging from traditional art and music through to Kunjiel (corroborees), food, weaving, crafts and panel discussions.“Council’s support of the Quandamooka Festival demonstrates the importance of the event, not only for cultural recognition, but also for the tourism and economic benefits it brings to Minjerribah and Redlands Coast.“Congratulations to the Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation and other contributing community organisations for once again creating a spectacular and inclusive event.”For more information on the Quandamooka Festival, visit the event’s website.
