Redland Art Awards finalists announced

Finalists in the prestigious biennial Redland Art Awards have been announced, with their work to go on display from 8 December.Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said the biennial awards received more than 400 entries this year from across Australia, from which the 55 finalists were selected.“The finalists – including nine from Redlands Coast – were chosen from a very competitive pool, each bringing unique perspectives and artistic styles,” the Mayor said.“The awards have a total prize pool of more than $30,000, with the primary award winner’s artwork being acquired for the Redland Art Gallery Collection.”All finalists will have their work showcased during an exhibition at Redland Art Gallery (RAG) Cleveland from Sunday 8 December 2024 to Tuesday 28 January 2025.Winners of the primary award, runner-up awards and the member’s choice, will be announced at a gala opening event at RAG on 6 December. At the end of the exhibition, the Meredith Foxton People’s Choice Award will be announced by its sponsors, Redland Yurara Art Society committee members.RAG Galleries Manager Kerryanne Farrer said the awards brought together exceptional talent from across Australia.“The awards are a unique platform that celebrate the diversity and depth of contemporary painting in Australia while highlighting the vibrant creative voices within our own community,” she said.“Supporting such a prestigious award reinforces Redland Art Galleries’ commitment to fostering artistic talent and strengthening connections between artists and audiences nationwide.”The finalists were deliberated over by pre-selection judging panel members Avril Quaill, Director of QUAMPI, Quandamooka Arts and Cultural Centre / Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation (QYAC), and well-respected Brisbane gallerist Jan Manton of Jan Manton Art.Ms Manton said she was honoured to be a part of the pre-selection panel alongside Ms Quaill whom she “greatly admired”.“Congratulations to the finalists, and I look forward to the announcement of the winners at the opening event,” she said.Leading the judging panel and making the final selection of award winners is curator and art consultant Steven Alderton who is a former RAG Director, having overseen the establishment of the Redland City Council-operated gallery in Cleveland 21 years ago.The 2024 Redland Art Awards finalists are: Adele MaloneyAndrew HillhouseAngie de LatourAnn ThomsonAnnette RaffArmando ChantAshlee BecksBelem LettBridie GillmanCaroline GasteenCelia FernandezDavid FenoglioDenise CrossDon BrabenDylan JonesEliza AdamFiona ChiversHelle CookJack RogersJames HaleJeremy BeswarickJoanne Currie NalinguJohn BrabenJude Taggart RobertsJulie CaneKarla MarchesiKathryn BlumkeKellie O’DempseyKerrie OliverKitty HortonKrista GardnerLauren RogersLindy SaleMark O’HaraMarnie CollieMerrett KeechMin-Woo BangMirra WhaleNatalie LavelleNeil HannNicola MossOdessa Mahony-de VriesPat HoffiePenelope OatesPetalia HumphreysRosella NamokSarah MuffordSorour FattahiStephen BarwellSteve LopesTamara BealeTherese Marie KingThomas C.
