Council delivers fast-tracked upgrade of Lake Broadwater

9 June 2021 New communal fire pit and picnic shelters at Lake Broadwater Western Downs Regional Council is boosting lifestyle opportunities for residents and visitors, with a $2 million revitalisation of Lake Broadwater now complete.     A revamp of the much-loved recreational facility was fast-tracked and completed as part of Council’s massive COVID-19 Recovery Package to secure and create jobs and enhance the liveability of the region.   Council Spokesperson for Recreational Spaces and Cemeteries Councillor Carolyn Tillman said the upgrades had revitalised the facility and enhanced recreational opportunities for the region.  “We are so proud to celebrate our beautiful natural scenery and this project is about making Lake Broadwater more enjoyable to visit,” Cr Tillman said.  “This project involved various improvements including new fire pits, bin enclosures, shelters, barbeques, signage, amenities block with shower, campground lighting, picnic seating, and entry and wayfinding signage.  “A brand-new camp kitchen and formalised vehicle and RV parking have also been installed, and we have delivered fabulous upgrades to the landscaping and day use areas.”  New powered camp kitchen at Lake Broadwater Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Events and Regional Promotion Councillor Kylie Bourne said the revamped facility would encourage more locals to explore their backyard and help to encourage more visitors to the region.   “Lake Broadwater is the perfect spot to visit for a family picnic or a weekend away, with various opportunities to head out into the great outdoors and explore our beautiful natural landscape and wildlife,” Cr Bourne said.   “We are proactively advancing our region as a tourism destination, and this project is about promoting our fantastic region and enticing more people to visit our towns and stay in our region a little longer.  “This project has really enhanced this popular recreational spot and I encourage residents to head to Lake Broadwater to experience the revitalised facility for themselves.”  This project was delivered in partnership with the Queensland Government’s 2020-21 COVID Works 4 Queensland Program.
