New playground for Pioneer Park in Proserpine

Whitsunday Regional Council will be delivering a massive upgrade to Pioneer Park in Proserpine with a new climbing net playground, a track ride with tower, a mouse wheel, climbing cubes and a bird’s nest swing, to be installed later this year.Keith Johns Park in Proserpine will also receive a facelift, with brand new shelters and BBQ, a unisex toilet and a new quad tower incorporating balancing, climbing and sliding activities.Council recently approved the projects as part of $4.07 million allocated to the region under the second round of the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program.Mayor Andrew Willcox said the upgrade was proof that Council is committed to providing high-quality recreational facilities for the regional communities.“We recently completed major improvements to the interior of the amenities block in Pioneer Park,” he said.“Pioneer Park is always a popular spot for our locals and visitors, and along with the new $1.7 million Water Park, the upgrades will improve the liveability and family experience in Proserpine.”Division 3 Councillor and Deputy Mayor John Collins said he had advocated strongly for the new playground.“Our parks are the heart of our community in regional areas and the new play equipment and facilities will give local families another way to spend quality time together in Proserpine,” he said.“Community consultation was held in December last year and Proserpine residents indicated which parks they wanted as their priority for upgrading.“During the consultation residents were asked to vote online for different pieces of playground equipment, and the most popular pieces have been chosen for the upgrade,” Cr Collins said. For more information on the consultation process, visit our engagement website Your Say Whitsunday, on https://yoursay.whitsundayrc.qld.gov.au/proserpine-parks-upgradeFor details about Council’s list of projects under Works for Queensland, visit our website at https://www.whitsunday.qld.gov.au/577/Works-for-Queensland
