Having commenced his volunteer role over six years ago at the Barossa Bushgardens Mr Trevor Waldhuter, a retired school principal and vineyard gardener, quickly became a highly regarded member of the volunteer team.
Barossa Bushgardens Natural Resource Centre Coordinator, Naomi Rea, says “Trevor is a standout ambassador for the organisation, his effort and skills have lifted the extent and quality of the native plant gardens and community education at the Bushgardens
Native vegetation has increased as a result of Trevor’s dedication to land care, and his ability to do more with less through recycling and reuse of all kinds of materials is impressive.”
As one of three finalists at the State Landcare Conference in Bordertown Mr Waldhuter’s dedication and expertise culminated in being awarded the 2019 South Australian Individual Landcare award.
“From a childhood dream, Landcare, through the Barossa Bushgardens, has provided me the passionate opportunity to work alongside staff and fellow volunteers in showcasing the plants of the Barossa Valley,” said Mr Waldhuter.
