Council welcomes news of Burnie Industry Training Hub

Council welcomes news of Burnie Industry Training Hub Published on 12 November 2019 Burnie City Council has welcomed confirmation that Burnie will host the first federally funded industry training hub for the wider North-West region and the West Coast.  The training hubs will strengthen partnerships between local schools, industries and employers, and ensure that vocational education and training is a first-choice option.  Mayor Steve Kons said that “the Industry Training Hub would build on other initiatives in the region, including the roll-out of the Jobs Generation Package, Beacon Foundation, the Don and Hellyer Regional Collectives, Burnie Works, the Sustainable Murchison Plan and the Cradle Coast Authority Regional Futures Plan.  "We believe the emphasis on encouraging more students to consider vocations requiring a VET qualification, and to provide the supported pathways to these qualifications, is vital for the continued economic growth in our region.  “Many of our important industry sectors including Advanced Manufacturing, Agriculture, Mining, Transport and Logistics, Forestry, Aquaculture, Tourism and Renewable Energy all require employees with VET qualifications.
