Families encouraged to take a wander in the fresh air this October

Families encouraged to take a wander in the fresh air this October 20 September 2018 Primary school students and families in the City of Kingston are urged to put on their runners and walk, cycle or scoot to and from school this October.  October is Walk to School Month, a free VicHealth initiative which encourages everyone to start and finish the day with some gentle exercise.  Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said that taking part is a simple way to improve health and wellbeing.  “Walk to School Month is an easy way to spend time with your loved ones, stretch your legs and get some fresh air,” said Cr Staikos.  Best of all, Walk to School Month suits people with every level of fitness.  “Whether you walk, ride or scoot, this is a wonderful way exercise which you can take at your own pace,” said the Mayor.  “Who knows, you may even see your fitness improve as the month goes on.”  In addition to supporting a healthier lifestyle, the initiative has wider benefits, including reducing traffic and preventing unnecessary carbon emissions.  “It’s a great way to spend some quality time with your family without the usual hustle and bustle of school drop off and pickup involved.”  For more information visit walktoschool.vic.gov.au News Listing
