Over $345K in funding announced for capital projects

Fifteen sporting clubs and community groups will be able to renew and improve their facilities sooner after successfully receiving grants under the Capital Funding for Community Groups funding scheme for 2023/24.

A total of $345,750 will be distributed among the community groups for capital projects that will improve or promote greater community access.

Mayor of Maroondah, Councillor Rob Steane OAM, said the funding would make possible various building and equipment upgrades used by groups, while also improving facilities and services for the wider community.

“These grants are one way for Council to assist groups to plan and develop community facilities that will continue to meet the needs of the community and the groups and organisations that use them,” Cr Steane said.

Categories

Grants are offered annually, with two categories available for organisations to apply for capital funding:

Category 1 - projects less than $7,700, which are fully funded by Council

Category 2 - projects over $7,700, which receive a 50% contribution from Council (with a maximum contribution of $75,000 Council contribution)

Council has approved the allocation of $345,750 through the latest Capital Funding for Community Groups Program funding round to the following recipients:

Projects up to $7,700 Arrabri Community House Occasional Childcare - Design for refurbishment and enhancement of childcare playground Ringwood Croquet Club - court three drainage remediation Glen Park Community Centre - security screens installation Oban Kindergarten - sandpit upgrade Heathmont Cricket Club - HE Parker (no.1 oval) net and turf practice facility upgrade design Projects over $7,700 Central Ringwood Community Centre - Bedford Park Community Garden Croydon Ranges Football Club - shelter for players and coaches no.1 pitch East Croydon Kilsyth Tennis Club - synthetic court upgrade North Ringwood Community Children’s Centre - shade sail project Knaith Road Childcare Centre - shade sail project Norwood Sporting Club - KPP solar panels project Ringwood Central Tennis Club - courts 3 to 6 resurfacing South Croydon Cricket Club - Glen Park pitch and run-ups redevelopment Croydon Ranges Cricket Club - Silcock Reserve north oval electronic scoreboard Ainslie Park Cricket Club - pitch upgrade

A wide range of applications were assessed under the program, with priority given to those projects satisfying a community need, that broaden community access, increase opportunities for participation, address safety issues and risk management, and which maximise the use of the facility.

Applications for the next round of grants will reopen in 2024.
