Speed limit to be reduced on Damms Road in Tawonga

Speed limit to be reduced on Damms Road in Tawonga

Council assessed community feedback regarding the safety of Damms Road and prepared a request to the Department of Transport.   The request has been approved and the speed limit will now be 80km/h from Thursday, 1 August 2024.   Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr John Forsyth, welcomed the new speed limit as a means of encouraging safer driving along Damms Road.   "Damms Road has multiple turns, some of which are sharper than drivers may be expecting," he said.   "While locals may be used to moderating their speed accordingly, this new speed limit will help everyone to stay safe as they travel along this road."  Mobile Variable Message Sign (VMS) boards will be in place along Damms Road to inform road users of the change.   The VMS boards will be in place from Monday, 22 July from both the Mountain Creek Road and Valley Avenue entryways.  The new speed limit will come into effect on Thursday, 1 August 2024.
