Banfield Street School Crossing Upgrades to Boost Community Safety

Ararat Rural City Council will soon commence works on a new road infrastructure project aimed at significantly improving community safety.

Works to install speed cushions and improved signage will be carried out at the Ararat West Primary School crossing on Banfield Street, between Hucker Street and Clarke Street, increasing road safety for local school children and pedestrians.

These speed cushions are made from durable rubber material and will be installed on both sides of Bandfield Street to reduce driver speeds in the existing school zone. Unlike speed bumps, speed cushions are a more cost-effective option that can be implemented quickly to improve safety for road users and pedestrians.

This project is supported by the Road Safety Program, jointly funded through the State and Federal Governments.

The Road Safety Program funding supports the fast roll-out of lifesaving road safety treatments on rural and regional roads and promotes greater protection for vulnerable road users, like cyclists and pedestrians.

“We are deeply committed to ensuring the safety of our community,” says Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison.

“This project aims to ensure that every community member feels safe when walking to and from school and will help to reinforce responsible driving practices, especially in our school zones.”
