Cohuna and district residents are benefiting from works to replace the Kervins Road bridge with a concrete structure.
Work has occurred since late January to replace the former wooden bridge that spans Barr Creek with the new structure, which opened to traffic last week.
“The completion of these works will be welcome news for residents and motorists who use Kervins Road to travel between the Murray Valley Highway and McMillans Road, with this new bridge eliminating the need to travel through Cohuna’s residential or industrial areas,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“The new bridge also removes limits on vehicles that weigh more than 30 tonnes travelling along Kervins Road, with load limits enforced to protect the former bridge prior to the works beginning.
“Council thanks residents, visitors and motorists for their patience as these works were completed.”
Meanwhile, work continues to replace the McLean Road bridge at Ninyeunook with a concrete structure, with this project on track for completion in the coming weeks.
The replacement of the Kervins Road and McLean Road bridges, as well as the construction of the Apex Park Road at Reedy Lake, form part of Council’s $29 million capital works program. These works are supported by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and the Roads to Recovery Program.
