A modernised Kyneton Skatepark will be delivered no matter the 2025 Federal Election result, following a matched $750,000 commitment from Federal Labor on Monday.
The commitment – which would see the design and construction of a new district facility including a new skatepark, pump track, and other active youth spaces – ensures that Council will be able to confidently progress planning for the project, following an earlier $750,000 pledge by the Federal Coalition on 3 April 2025.
Mayor Dom Bonanno thanked Federal Labor Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters for joining Council in supporting this beneficial upgrade for the community.
"As Council works to refine our next budget for the 2025-26 financial year, we’re grateful for the bipartisan funding support on the Kyneton Skatepark proposal, which will ultimately help us to get the skateboards rolling on designs and get shovels in the ground sooner," Mayor Bonanno said.
“We won’t stop here with our advocacy efforts – we will continue to advocate strongly to all parties over the coming weeks to fund other identified priority projects for the benefit of our shire.”
Originally constructed in 2001, the Kyneton Skatepark was assessed as poor and in need of reinvigoration in Council’s Skate and BMX Strategy (adopted in November 2023), identified as a short-term priority project to fund.
