Our community places high value on Boroondara’s heritage places. In addition to the Municipal Wide Heritage Gap Study that is currently in progress, a number of smaller scale heritage studies are taking place throughout our municipality.

In July, the recommendations of the Surrey Hills South Residential Precincts Heritage Study (stage 2 of the Surrey Hills and Canterbury Hill Estate Study) were implemented into the Boroondara Planning Scheme as part of Amendment C177.

As a result, eight individual properties and three heritage precincts in Surrey Hills are now included in the Heritage Overlay.

We are pleased the Minister for Planning has approved the amendment consistent with Council’s adopted position in February 2017. This amendment will help preserve locally significant heritage properties and precincts in Surrey Hills, and showcase the different stages of development in the area.
