Pop-up activations will be staged this summer across the Claremont Town Centre shopping precinct in a partnership between the Town of Claremont and local businesses.Mayor Jock Barker said three monthly Thursday-night street parties would feature different cultural themes, adding another layer of ambience to late-night trading in the town centre.“The summer series starts on Thursday 5 December with Buon Natale, an Italian-themed Christmas street party in our renowned Bay View Terrace,” Mayor Barker said.“Then we’ll welcome in the Luna New Year on Avion Way on the last Thursday in January, followed by the Au Revoir Summer laneway pop-up in Walt Drabble Lane and Leura Avenue carpark, on the last Thursday in February.”Mayor Barker described last year’s Buon Natale as a “buoyant occasion – with residents and visitors mingling in the street, soaking up the festive ambience, and starting their Christmas shopping with unique gift ideas from Claremont’s speciality stores”.The 2019 Buon Natale street party will include performances by the Joys of Women Italian Choir, a piano accordion player, the Nonnas comic duo, and the Perth Harmony Chorus quartet.Kids can enjoy free face-painting, activity tables hosted by Toyworld and the Scribblers Festival, and a special family Christmas celebration at Bunnings to keep the young and young-at-heart entertained throughout the evening.Refreshments from The Claremont hotel, Nolita Restaurant, Belissimo, Stand’in Room and The Lane Café will be complemented by Pressed Earth fresh juices, food trucks and fresh gelato carts.“In the true spirit of Christmas, the Claremont Knitting Club and Freshwater Bay Primary School students have created hand-made Christmas decorations, with all proceeds going to the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal,” said Mayor Barker.“These very special ornaments will feature alongside Christmas-themed stalls and complement the speciality stores of Old Theatre Lane and broader shopping precinct.”Continuing the pop-up summer series activations, Claremont Town Centre has partnered with the Chung Wah Association to welcome in the Luna New Year – bringing Avion Way alive with lion dances, Chinese face-painting, the God of Fortune, a traditional dance performance, and a Chinese calligrapher on Thursday 30 January.A European-feel pop-up in Walt Drabble lane will farewell the season in style on Thursday 27 February, with Au Revoir Summer to be set between the fresh street mural connecting Leura Avenue with the town centre and iconic Empire Homewares. As the sun dips on one of the final nights of summer, the ‘chilled’ activation will transform the laneway with a pop-up bar by The Claremont, food trucks, and ambient music.“The street parties are a wonderful way to meet up with friends, make new acquaintances and discover the people, places and events of Claremont,” Mayor Barker said.
