Upgrades to Margaret River Rec Centre on the horizon

Upgrades to Margaret River Rec Centre on the horizon

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River is seeking tenders for a concept design to replace the existing Aquatic Centre roof structure and other potential upgrades to the Margaret River Recreation Centre.Shire Director Corporate and Community Services James Shepherd said the need to replace the Aquatic Centre’s existing roof presented an opportunity to plan potential upgrades to other parts of the facility.“The roof structure above our pool is reaching the end of its useful life and structural upgrades are needed,” he said.“We are calling for quotes to consider the replacement of the roof either on a like for like basis or to incorporate additional space for other activities if our budget allows.“This will include investigating options for potential external funding sources and opportunities to generate revenue,” he said. The design plans being explored include an upgrade to change facilities, the foyer area and the addition of a new gym facility to be located to the North of the existing Aquatic Centre building envelope.Shire Manager Sport and Community Recreation, Dylan Brown said although the works were a long way off this was an important start.“At this stage we’re anticipating physical works would begin in 2022 at the very earliest,” he said.“As we work through the plans and costs, we will keep our Rec Centre users and our community in the loop.”
