Sporting clubs in Alkimos and Butler have a state-of-the-art facility to call home, following the official opening of the new Halesworth Park Pavilion.
The pavilion provides clubs with a host of modern and accessible mixed-use amenities, including change rooms, a kitchen, and a kiosk that caters to local sporting clubs and the general community.
Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken said the addition of the new pavilion marked the completion of the Halesworth Park sporting and recreation precinct.
“The 11.9-hectare sporting and recreation precinct is also home to two multi-sport ovals, 16 multi-use hardcourts, cricket nets, a dual-use path, children’s play area and picnic facilities,” she said.
“The addition of a dedicated sporting pavilion to this already popular precinct not only benefits our sporting clubs, but also local residents who visit the park with family and friends or for community events.
"Thank you to the Federal Government, State Government, LWP Property Group and WA Department of Education for your contributions to this project."
Federal Member for Pearce Tracey Roberts said she was proud to have championed the Australian Government’s $5 million contribution to the project.
“This significant investment supported the development of netball and tennis courts complete with floodlighting, alongside beautifully landscaped pathways and a playground designed for families to enjoy,” she said.
“This is more than just a sports facility; it is a place where friendships are forged, and future champions will train.”
State Member for Butler John Quigley said he was thrilled to see another fantastic addition to the community.
“Halesworth is a place everyone can enjoy, whether they’re having a kick of the footy or enjoying a picnic with the family",” he said.
To help deliver the $23 million Halesworth Park sporting and recreation precinct, the City received $5 million in funding from the Federal Government through the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and the Arts, $2 million from the State Government, through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, $1.27 million from LWP Property Group and $980,000 from the WA Department of Education.
