Beach Street Toilet & Public Art Project
City of Fremantle 28 Feb 2025

Community engagement has begun on a project to install a public toilet in the Beach Street carpark in the city’s east end.

The 24-hour facility will address a critical need, providing essential support for all members of the community, including city commuters, skate park users and those using the goodwill services nearby.

The prefabricated toilet unit will be strategically located above existing underground utilities, with passive lighting and surveillance for safety.

It has vandal resistant fixtures, an automated cleaning system, automated door locking function with timer controls, hygienic touch-free flushing and hand washing features and is universally accessible.

Installation and commissioning of the unit are scheduled to happen in mid-2025.

The Beach Street facility will provide a safe and dignified space, reinforcing Fremantle’s commitment to inclusivity and maintaining a welcoming city environment.

Members of the public can contribute by reviewing the proposal and taking a survey through the City’s MySay website or requesting a 1:1 meeting with a City Officer.

As part of the project the City is looking for expressions of interest from artists to design an artwork to be applied to the exterior walls.

The public art along with surrounding landscaping will create a welcoming, respectful environment. To view the artist briefing pack, visit mysay.fremantle.wa.gov.au
