Permits required during Autumn Restricted Burning Period

Permits required during Autumn Restricted Burning Period

The Restricted Burning Period will commence 12am on Monday 15 March and will remain in place until Wednesday 12 May 2021 (unless varied).Shire of Augusta Margaret River Chief Bush Fire Control Officer David Holland said the recent rain had sufficiently damped fuel loads to allow for open fires under restricted conditions.“I remind the public that a Permit to Burn is required prior to lighting any fire in the open air during the Restricted Burning Period,” he said.“These can be obtained through your local Fire Control Officer whose details are listed in the Shire’s Firebreak Notice and Bushfire Information 2020–2021 brochure and on the Shire’s website.“Permits are also required to burn small piles of garden refuse.“This helps us know the location of fires, and whether it’s a planned burn or an out-of-control fire.“Permits to Burn also help the Wine Industry avoid, where possible, the potential impact of smoke on grapes that might be still on the vines.”Mr Holland thanked the local community for their efforts in being fire safe this summer, with no major incidents recorded in the Shire for the season.“Areas around Perth have had a very rough season and this can be a sombre reminder of the devastating impact of fires,” he said.“Thank you to everyone who has played their part by adequately preparing their properties, adhering to fire requirements, and being personally prepared with family fire plans in place.“Please continue to be diligent and comply with all fire requirements.”The most up-to-date fire season dates, and a copy of the Firebreak Notice 2020-21 is published on the homepage of the Shire website at www.amrshire.wa.gov.au
