City Recognised at Australian Coastal Awards

City Recognised at Australian Coastal Awards

The awards, which were held in conjunction with the 2019 Australian Coastal Councils Conference, saw the City receive the Highly Commended award in the category of Community Engagement for its innovative approach to coastal hazard risk management and adaptation planning.Local governments from around Australia were recognised during the awards, which were established to acknowledge the achievements of individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to the Australian coastal environment, settlements and sustainability.  City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels, who is also the Chair of the Australian Coastal Councils Association, said it was an honour for the City to be recognised at the awards.  "The City of Rockingham is home to 37 km of pristine coastline and protecting the future of our wonderful environmental assets is a strong priority," Mayor Sammels said. "As a member of the Australian Coastal Councils Association the City is focused not only on preserving our own coastline, but also helping other coastal councils face challenges such as coastal erosion and sea level rise."The City is delighted to receive such recognition from its peers and will continue to work with the Rockingham community and the Australian Coastal Councils Association to preserve our beautiful coastline."The Australian Coastal Councils Association enables coastal local governments to work together to tackle key issues.
