Sand Renourishment in East Rockingham

Sand Renourishment in East Rockingham

Otherwise known as the Kwinana Headland Beach, Challenger Beach is located in East Rockingham, just north of the grain terminal on Rockingham Beach Road. The area has long been impacted by erosion issues, with the City typically carrying out renourishment works every four to six years.City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said sand from the Point Peron sand trap, which is adjacent to the Point Peron boat launching facility, would be used to renourish Challenger Beach.“The sand renourishment works at Challenger Beach will protect the shoreline from further erosion and improve the amenity of the beach,” Mayor Sammels said.“Sand from the trap is excavated twice a year to maintain the navigability for vessels at the boat ramp, which is then used to renourish a number of other coastal areas across the City.”Works will begin in late April and are expected to take between three to five weeks.Image: The City will carry out beach renourishment works in late April.
